Richard Maxted was awarded the Mary Ellen McCollum Board Service Award at the June Annual Meeting of the Community Chest of Port Washington for his 30+ years of dedicated service to Port Washington as a volunteer and board member of the Community Chest. The award was named in memory of Mary Ellen McCollum, who died while serving as a board member and who was also committed to helping the People of Port Washington. Citizen of the Year Awarded to Dr. George Williams PhD
Chris Bain, President of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society (CNPHS) congratulating Dr. Williams, a former CNPHS trustee. Dr. Williams was instrumental in the restoration and preservation of many local buildings, areas and cemeteries including The Sands Cemetery, the Dodge Homestead and the Mill Pond Historic District, amongst many others. He was the Village of Port Washington North Historian, the Chairman of the Town of North Hempstead’s Landmarks Preservation Commission and was invaluable in getting the Landmark on Main Street named to the national Historic Register and in listing the Sands Willets House to the State and national Registers of Historic Places.
