Employer Matching Gift 

Many companies will match donations (including ones you’ve made on-line) by their employees to qualified nonprofit organizations.  If your employer has a Matching Gift Program, you can double your contribution to The Community Chest.  Please ask your Human Resources Department for information.  

Legacy Gift

  • You can name The Community Chest as a beneficiary of your retirement account or life insurance policy;

  • You can name The Community Chest as a beneficiary in your will or living trust;

  • If you are 72 or older you can take advantage of making tax-free distributions—of up to $100,000--directly from your IRA account to the Community Chest.

Ask your retirement plan administrator or financial advisor for a change of beneficiary or other form.  Identify The Community Chest as: The Community Chest of Port Washington 382 Main Street, Port Washington NY 11050, Tax ID # 11-1614994.

Gifts of Stocks and Securities

 

If you are planning a donation this year, look through your portfolio before you write a check.  Donating appreciated stock (that you have held for more than one year) gives you double tax benefits: 1. Your charitable deduction is equal to the current (fair market) value of the stock and 2. You avoid paying tax on the unrealized capital gains of the donated stock.  Click here to download simple instructions.  

Tribute Gift

Make a gift in honor of or to memorialize someone special to you. Call The Community Chest at 767-2121 or check the “in honor of” or “in memory of” box when you make your contribution.  ALL tribute gifts are recognized in the annual brochure distributed to the community.

Corporate Sponsorships

Our Corporate Sponsorship Program presents an excellent way for companies to invest in The Community Chest’s mission, while receiving exposure in Port Washington and along the affluent North Shore through our events. Depending on the event, that exposure may include printed and email advertisements, outdoor signage, coupons, discounts or advertising straight to the in-box of event participants, press releases and promotional material.  Packages can be customized to meet a company’s needs.

Gift of Goods or Services

Donations of in-kind goods and services help us maximize the amount of funds that we can dedicate to grantmaking. We are always in need of computer, marketing, event and office help.  Volunteer to offer your talents.

Donations of retail items and gift certificates add richness to our event raffle programs. Helpful items include but are not limited to golfing, tennis and boating related gifts, restaurant gift certificates, gift cards of any kind, tickets to athletic or cultural events, wine or alcohol baskets, gardening items, coffee and/or tea packages, artwork or artisan handcrafts.  Donated items must be new.

Host a Fundraising Event

One of the most festive ways to support The Community Chest and the People of Port and raise awareness of our mission is by hosting an event. Do you like to have people to your home?  Host a weekend brunch, wine tasting or cocktail party.  Make it themed: Super Bowl, March Madness, the Oscars, or tag it to a Port Washington tradition like Pride in Port.
